Boomtown is split into ten musical districts, which feature different themes to stimulate your curiosity and senses.

In our first feature for Boomtown 2017, we promised you more info on the full line ups for each district. Never ones to renege on a promise, below is a a breakdown to what you can expect from some of the 10 districts at Boomtown Chapter 9. 

The District: CHINATOWN

The vibe: Ska and Punk

Info: Comprising of four stages and other Street Venues, you can expect to see some of the biggest names from the ska and punk world, including The Specials, Sublime with Rome, Skindred, Slightly Stoopid, Reel Big Fish, Hoffmaestro, Hepcat, Eskorzo, Ska’N’Ska, Chainska Brassika and The Ska Vengers.


The District: WILD WEST

The vibe: Home of bluegrass, folk, and world to bassline

Info: For the leg shaking do- si-do-ers, and midnight party people alike, this district takes attendees back in time to when Boomtown’s immersive storyline first began; where cowboys and bounty hunters,showgirls and saloons populate bandit laden streets. Joining Frank Turner , Alabama 3, Newton Faulkner and Kílaon are folk revivalist Eliza Carthy & The Wayward Band, cult political folk songwriter Beans On Toast and scrumpy and Western band The Wurzels, to name just a few.


The District: TRENCHTOWN

The vibe: A global celebration of reggae and dub from all corners of the world

Info: Trenchtown’s celebration of Jamaican music and soundsystem culture is at the heart of Boomtown, with its musical influence heard across the entire festival. Going from strength to strength over the past few years, reggae music has had an exciting resurgence of conscious, organic music, dubbed the ‘Reggae Revival’, elevating the scene to the strongest it’s been in years. Artists include Ziggy Marley making his debut in the heart of Trenchtown, Toots & The Maytals, reggae’s original MC’s Big Youth + U-Roy, and Chaka Demus & Pliers.


The District: MAYFAIR

The vibe: A a backdrop of Vintage Remix, Funk & Soul and Electro Swing

Info: This highly theatrical district brings characters, costumes and ultimate fun to the forefront. Acts representing the Mayfair music genres on the Town Centre include; independant French producer Wax Tailor, festival favourites 10 piece live outfit Smerins Anti-Social ClubSam & The Womp’s trumpet and vocal Balkan electronica and Bordeaux beatmakers Smokey Joe & The Kid with their infectious hip hop loops.


The District: OLDTOWN

The vibe: Brass sections and party time Polka’s are never far away with sounds from Sweden to Central America via the furthest reaches of Eastern Europe in the Oldtown district which Balkan beats are made to rule feet.

Info: Since the festival’s gates last opened, Oldtown’s Jolly Dodger pirate ship stage has been reclaimed by the sea, revealing the long forgotten majesty of the Oldtown Port, the new main stage for revelry in Oldtown. All set to grace the port this year are; Ukrainian Los Colorados re-imagined modern pop in their own fusion of barmy Balkan. Spanish septet Sonido Vegetal jump through chord changes during impressively dynamic sets, and contagious gypsy funk riffs are supplied by The Worldly Savages.



The vibe: Jazz is at the forefront of Whistlers Green’s main stage.

Info: The Windmill this year featuring not one, but four, Mercury Prize nominees! The line up is a serious representation of the current wave of new musicians taking the genres to pastures new, opening it up to a whole new generation of converted Jazz fans! Opening The Windmill on Thursday is one of the most renowned DJ’s, BBC6 Music’s Gilles Peterson who will be showcasing his extensive record collection in a set to excite each generation with selections varying from jazz to world, afrobeat and beyond. Other acts include Floating Lotus, Dub FX, DJ Format and Nomade Orquestra. 


The District: BARRIO LOCO

The vibe:  Everything from house to techno, funky to bashment, trance to soca

Info: Bringing the best in live hip-hop, bass, house and techno. Barrio Loco is a technicolor wonderland inspired by a carnivalesque aesthetic. Main venues include; Vamos, a mecca of electronica, lasers and techno and Poco Loco, a vibrant stage serving funk and live bass music. Expect to hear the likes of Ben UFO, Mr Scruff & Joy Orbison, The Afronaughts and Elf kids.


The District: SECTOR 6

The vibe: Think Jungle, Drum & Bass, Grime and Bass 

Info: Sector 6 takes nuclear facilities to new heights. Introduced in Chapter 8 as home to the more rebellious members of society, some of the most respected underground DJ’s send waves of bass rippling through the swarming crowd that swell the natural bowl of sound on the outskirts of the festival. Expect to hear the likes of Shy FX, Toddla T, Spectrasoul and Electrical Sound System.


The District: DSTRKT 5

The vibe: A futuristic, post-apocalyptic district where heavy drum&bass, techno, and jungle music rule the night

Info: Leave all preconceptions behind when entering this party arena. Artists include junglists Aphrodite, Fabio & Grooverider and Storm, along with dubstep pioneers Caspa and Loefah. Plus a  whole host of next generation artists will be delivering waist winding sets of dancehall infused bassline, headed by Dub Phizix & Strategy, Gutterfunk collective DJ Die, Dismantle, Addison Groove and Jamie Rodigan.

As we mentioned in our previous article, Boomtown has currently sold out. However, due to the amount of fraudulent ticket sales that have been reported, Boomtown are offering a limited amount of refunds and resale tickets to take place directly  via their ticket website to help limit the amount of people who may be victims of criminal activity.
